Red Cedar Lake Camp – Hidden in the midst of Ontario’s cottage country, Red Cedar Lake Camp offers the opportunity to go fishing for “the big one” or just find a spot on the lake or on a quiet beach and do nothing at all. Located in the Marten River area there are miles and miles of trees, an assortment of lakes and rivers to explore and plenty of wild life in the water and on land.
Cottages come in one, two and three bedroom sizes, with some large enough to accommodate a group of ten. Cottages offer fully equipped kitchens, all linens, blankets and pillows. Propane barbeques are available for grilling your meal al-fresco. All the cottages are hidden along the shore of Loon Bay, a prime fishing spot. The 5,984 acre lake, the Marten River and the Temagami River system give you plenty of places to drop that line.
Choose the American Plan that offers all meals including box lunches for your excursions. Also included are the use of a boat and motor, including one tank of gas, life jackets, maps, bait and a large landing net. Bring your catch back and use the onsite fish cleaning and freezing facilities. During the months of July and August participate in onsite fishing derbies to win prizes.
The onsite lodge is a place for guests to mix and mingle. A big screen TV with satellite reception and a home theater system are both available. Play shuffleboard, darts, pinball or pool or just snuggle down in front of the fireplace with a book from the onsite library. The Lodge offers a fully stocked bar and coffee served all day long. A sundry store offers movies for rent, snacks, drinks and cigarettes. If you want to make bigger shopping run, the closest store is just over three miles away. A guest laundry and pay phone are at the lodge.
Families flock to Red Cedar Lake Camp to the warm sandy beach. A swimming area is roped off so the kids know where the deep water starts. Badminton, ring toss, volleyball and horseshoe pits are all available. A playground for the little ones offers a teeter totter and swings. Bring the bikes and take off on the mountain trails right next to the camp.
Kayaks and canoes are available, free of charge, for the kids to use in Loon Bay. Kids can even do a bit of fishing right off the central docks and often come away with a nice pike or perch. Tuesday and Thursday are movie nights, including fresh, hot popcorn. After that it’s campfire time. Roast a marshmallow or two before calling it a night.
